Undergraduate Research Assistant Student Spotlight
Jiyi Liew

Before coming to UT, I heard about the impactful research conducted by McCombs faculty, and I knew I wanted to get involved. Now, I’m a finance major entering my third and final year at McCombs, and I’ve had the privilege of working alongside Dr. Dave Harrison, Babatunde Adesina, and fellow URAs to make faculty research more accessible for the McCombs community. Together, we leveraged AI to create concise summaries and slides for 3,000-plus faculty research papers. This project was my first exposure to how AI can be utilized for creating a positive impact. I was able to further explore AI this summer as an enterprise risk intern at Wellington Management, where I built an AI-driven database process. Outside of academics, I’ve spent 10 years playing violin and 10 years doing ballet; both have taught me discipline and persistence, which are lessons I continue to carry with me. Looking ahead, I plan to build a career in risk and compliance, apply the skills I’ve developed as a URA and McCombs student, and continue making meaningful impacts.
