Students Named Finalists for Outstanding Student Award  

Two McCombs students — Scott Fonseka and Amelia Nickerson — were among the finalists in the Outstanding Student Award, a time-honored UT tradition since 1951, recognizing high-caliber students who model exceptional leadership, scholarship, character, and service. Texas Parents honors two recipients and four finalists each year. Fonseka served as the vice president of the Tejas Club, a student organization with a 100-year history of student leadership that includes 17 student body presidents as former members. As a Canfield Business Honors major, he was the executive vice president of the Honors Business Association’s coordinating alumni-student networking events, a member of the honors program’s alumni advisory board, and a business honors peer mentor. After graduation from the McCombs School of Business, he’ll work at Guggenheim Securities in New York, following internships there, and at Treaty Oak Equity and Oasis Petroleum. Nickerson, a Canfield Business Honors and computer science honors major, has been a member of the Computer Science Roadshow, McCombs Women’s Case Competition, Texas Equestrian Team, Women in Business Association, and Women in Computer Science. After graduation, she’ll work at Bain & Company as a strategy consultant, but she says her ultimate goal is to bridge the gender gap in computing by creating a mentorship network.
