In Spring 2026, Maya challenged herself to study abroad in Hong Kong — an opportunity made possible by the Hugh Liedtke Endowed Scholarship in Business. “Studying abroad was a transformative experience that allowed me to see that there is more to the world and life than I could ever imagine. I worked with children, navigated multiple countries on my own, and learned a great deal about myself in the process.”

Studying abroad allowed me to see that there is more to the world and life than I could ever imagine.”

For students who may find studying abroad unachievable, endowments can provide the opportunity for them to broaden their worldview and pursue opportunities that create meaningful experiences. Maya said it best: “I am extremely grateful for everyone who helped make Hong Kong possible and will forever express my gratitude to the donors who believed in me and saw that I was capable of such a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Alyssia’s endowed scholarship has provided more than financial support. It demonstrates a belief in her potential. That belief inspired her to lead, serve, and create opportunities for others. The Greg Goodman and Susan Schnitzer Scholarship in Business gave her the confidence to leave Portland, Oregon, for Austin and embrace opportunities to get involved in student organizations and take on new challenges.

I have never felt limited in what I could do or what I could achieve.

She went on to lead an award-winning social entrepreneurship project that took her to an international competition in Bangkok. Alyssia continued her McCombs journey as part of a study-abroad program at the London School of Economics. Her impact was recognized in 2025 when she received the John L. Adams Scholar of the Year Award.

Reflecting on her journey, Alyssia says: “Scholarships are about more than funds. It’s knowing that UT, the McCombs School of Business, and these donors believe in me. With incredible professors, organizations, and opportunities, I have never felt limited in what I could do or what I could achieve. And all of this has been made possible because of my scholarship award and program supporters.”
