UT Ranks No. 14 for Producing Top U.S. Leaders
UT Austin finds itself in elite company for launching the nation’s most influential leaders in Time Magazine’s ranking.
The University of Texas at Austin ranks No. 14 in Time Magazine’s list of colleges and universities that are producing the most top U.S. leaders.
The top three contenders out of the 100 ranked were Harvard, Stanford, and the University of Pennsylvania.
UT Austin hit No. 3 among public schools behind the University of Michigan (9), and Berkeley (11). Only five public institutions made the top 20, UT is the only one located in Texas.
Both McCombs and the School of Law are noted as heavy hitters in UT’s success.
According to Time, alums of the top schools “receive more opportunities, and many companies have a vested interest in hiring them.” In their view, “if leaders’ resumés are any indicator, [these schools] may be the clearest launching point to leadership.”
Time partnered with Statista to analyze the resumés of 2,000 top leaders in the U.S., “politicians, CEOs, union leaders, Nobel winners, and more across sectors,” in order to identify the schools and universities where they took their degrees.
Searching through corporate biographies, personal websites, official CVs, and social media profiles, survey administrators parsed out 14,000 individual career milestones or “CV stations” for the project. The methodology took into account university enrollment figures to ensure schools of all sizes could be recognized for leadership development.
