Texas Executive Education at the McCombs School of Business has launched a Sustainability Leadership Program that will prepare executives to lead their organizations into a sustainability-focused future. The program is a collaboration with Emeritus, a global leader in professional education, and enrollment for the nine- to 12-month program is now open for a September 2023 start.

Recent geopolitical shifts, climate change concerns, and global issues have highlighted the urgency of integrating sustainability practices into business operations. According to a study by Deloitte, 75% of executives reported that their organizations had increased sustainability investments over the last year.

“Sustainability is no longer a nice-to-have — it’s a necessity,” said Meeta Kothare, the program’s faculty director. “To stay ahead of the curve, executives need to integrate sustainability at the very core of their strategy and operations and measure its impact.”

The program includes 18 weeks of core modules focused on sustainability in business, sustainability leadership, and measuring success. The core modules are followed by 12 weeks of online electives (participants choose two). Participants will work on a capstone project — an actionable business case or road map for a sustainability initiative. The program culminates with a networking event on the University of Texas campus in Austin. Upon completion of the program, participants will be awarded a verified digital certificate and digital badge from the University of Texas at Austin, McCombs School of Business.

“The Sustainability Leadership Program from Texas Executive Education is exactly what executives need to evolve their organizations,” Kothare said. “The program aims to provide executives with the skills and knowledge to achieve sustainability goals while creating a better world.”

The University of Texas at Austin is one of the nation’s leading academic institutions for sustainability studies, research, and interdisciplinary engagement. This new program is designed and led by subject-matter experts who provide valuable insights into current sustainability trends and the steps participants can take to realign operations, keeping sustainability at the forefront of business decisions.

“Sustainability leaders face the urgent challenge of building a business case for sustainability and determining the best way to implement it for their organization and function,” said Mike Malefakis, president of university partnerships at Emeritus. “We’re honored to partner with Texas Executive Education to provide this impactful learning journey.”

“Our state’s prominence in the entire energy sector has given us a front row seat to a changing industry,” said McCombs Dean Lillian Mills.

“McCombs faculty and the Global Sustainability Leadership Institute prepare students to adapt to new markets and stay on the cutting edge, innovating sustainability solutions that benefit everyone.”

The program is currently enrolling eligible participants with a minimum of 10 years of work experience for a September 14, 2023, start date. To apply or request additional information, please visit the program page here.
