Texas Executive Education at the McCombs School of Business is launching its inaugural Executive Program for Energy Leaders to provide energy executives with the tools, frameworks, and insights needed to advance their careers and make an impact in their organizations. The program is being launched in collaboration with Emeritus, the global leader in making world-class professional education accessible and affordable, and enrollment is now open for a December 2022 start.

Dramatic changes to the traditional supply chain are forcing organizations to rethink their business models and move toward energy transition with a focus on carbon capture and sequestration, together with clean and renewable energy sources. In fact, according to a study by KPMG, 62% of energy CEOs said managing climate risk would determine whether they can keep their jobs over the next five years. To be successful in this evolving landscape, energy executives need to identify new growth areas, determine capital project priorities, liaise with government and external stakeholders, and leverage the power of digital transformation.

Participants will join a global cohort benefiting from the program’s in-depth curriculum, expert faculty, and invaluable networking opportunities. The program includes 18 weeks of core modules focused on navigating the uncertain energy landscape; identifying, selecting, and executing risky capital projects; and delivering the business plan. The core modules are followed by 12 weeks of online electives (participants choose two). Throughout the program, participants will work on a capstone project that will serve as an actionable business case or a road map. The program culminates with a networking event on the University of Texas campus in Austin. Upon successful completion of the program, participants will be awarded a verified digital certificate and digital badge from the University of Texas at Austin, McCombs School of Business.

“Organizations are looking for strategic leadership to turn today’s energy business challenges into long-term opportunities. The Executive Program for Energy Leaders from Texas Executive Education equips participants with the nuanced perspectives and decision frameworks to navigate these uncertain waters,” said R. Britt Freund, program faculty director and professor of information, risk, and operations management. “The focus of the program is to develop sustainable growth strategies that address ever-shifting market demands using all the tools at our disposal.”

The program is led by subject matter experts and industry veterans with extensive energy experience who will provide valuable insight and teaching to participants, alongside one-on-one success coaches.

“Energy leaders are challenged with striking a balance between driving business growth with profitable and efficient solutions and innovating for future demand,” said Mike Malefakis, president of university partnerships. “We’re honored to partner with Texas Executive Education to provide this immersive learning journey.”

“McCombs has been a leader in the business of energy for decades, and we are excited to bring our extraordinary faculty expertise to this innovative program,” added Lillian F. Mills, dean, The McCombs School of Business.

The program is currently enrolling eligible participants with a minimum of 10 years of work experience for a December 1, 2022, start date. To apply or request additional information, please visit the program page here.
