Ph.D. Student Spotlight
Yunyi Li

Yunyi Li is completing her Ph.D. in information systems-computational data science at the Texas McCombs. Advised by Professor Maytal Saar-Tsechansky and Assistant Professor Maria De-Arteaga, she focuses her research on advancing trustworthy AI, with particular attention to data integrity, algorithmic fairness, human-AI collaboration, and interpretable machine learning. Motivated by the risks of overlooked label bias, her job market paper introduces decoupled confident learning (DeCoLe), a principled machine learning framework that can effectively perform bias-aware mislabeling detection at scale. Broadly speaking, her research is about deepening our understanding and advancing the trustworthiness of socio-technical systems so they can serve organizations and society in a responsible and lasting way.
