Registration is open for the 2025 Business Outlook event in Houston, bringing together energy experts for a critical conversation around the industry’s future, Feb. 6 at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas — Houston Branch.

Hosted by the University of Texas McCombs School of Business and the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, the event features a panel discussion — “Focus on the Future: Fueling Conversations Around Today’s Energy Challenges” — moderated by Ethan Burris, Texas McCombs senior associate dean for academic affairs. McCombs alumni and the Houston business community are invited; breakfast and networking begin at 7:30 a.m., with the panel discussion at 8:30 a.m.

Panelists are Garrett Golding, assistant vice president for energy programs at the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas and contributor to the “Dallas Fed Economics” blog; Jeff Gustavson (MBA ’99), vice president of Lower Carbon Energies for Chevron Corp. and president of Chevron New Energies; and Joshua D. Rhodes (UT M.S. ’11, UT Ph.D. ’14), a research scientist and lecturer at The University of Texas at Austin and a founding partner and chief technology officer of IdeaSmiths LLC.

The group will address several issues vital to understanding the energy sector today, along with the risks and opportunities in this fast-evolving landscape. The panel will also examine how collaborations between companies and governments can foster innovation and facilitate the commercialization of new solutions during the energy transition.

The Houston event is the first in a three-part series that continues with a discussion on real estate in Dallas on Feb. 13 and concludes with a panel on fintech in Austin on Feb. 19.

“These vibrant dialogues are designed to inspire, educate, and empower,” Burris said. “We’re glad to amplify the voices of leaders who can help businesses navigate the uncertainties of industry with informed confidence.”
