Application deadlines are fast approaching for a new part-time, online master’s degree from the nation’s No. 1-ranked business analytics program.

The University of Texas McCombs School of Business’ Round 4 (final) deadline for 2023 admission is April 17 for its new Master of Science in Business Analytics for Working Professionals. Accepted students will start the program in June.

The new program satisfies an overwhelming demand for admission to the school’s top-ranked full-time MSBA program, said Genaro Gutierrez, program director for Texas McCombs MSBA programs.

“Through our new MSBA program for Working Professionals, students can stay employed full-time while earning one of our most competitive degrees in one the nation’s fastest-growing job fields,” Gutierrez said.

Eduniversal ranked Texas McCombs’ full-time MSBA the top master’s in big data management in the U.S. last year, and the school admits only 19 percent of applicants each year. Graduates of the class of 2022 with previous work experience accepted jobs earning an average of $127K.

Alumni work in a variety of industries, including technology, e-commerce, finance, and marketing, with such jobs as business analyst, market research analyst, and business intelligence director.

“Current, and emerging, technologies are generating a massive amount of data, and organizations need people who can harness big data and use it to develop more effective business practices and strategies,” Gutierrez said.

Far beyond number-crunching, the program’s unique focus on quantifying tradeoffs in business decisions will give Texas McCombs MSBA-WP graduates a leading edge, he said.

Students will complete the 36-hour, 23-month program part-time, through a blend of self-paced online learning, live online classes, and immersive on-campus experiences, allowing them to upskill in a rapidly growing field without interrupting their careers. Students will meet live weekly with program faculty as well as have full access to McCombs career management resources.

“This program stands out because, even though it’s conveniently online, it’s also cohort-based,” said Jade DeKinder, Texas McCombs associate dean for master of science programs. “We’ve capped enrollment and designed in-person experiences to ensure students gain all they can from a tight network of exceptional peers as they all seek growth in their careers.”

Five on-campus “immersives” allow students to engage with industry leaders in Austin, interact with the McCombs Career Management team, and apply coursework to real world industry problems.

Students can customize the curriculum with electives, including topics in supply chain and marketing analytics. A capstone project allows them to tackle a project end-to-end for a real business.

“This degree plan is built to stay relevant and make a lasting impact on a career,” Gutierrez said.

Texas McCombs Dean Lillian Mills agrees: “In line with our belief that we train world-changers, this flexible new degree option brings our renowned faculty to people already engaged with organizations,” she said. “We fully embrace this chance to open our doors to working professionals and prepare them for what’s next in big data — one of the most exciting business developments of our time,” Mills said.
