Butler, Kozmetsky Selected for Austin Tech Hall of Fame

During June, the Austin Technology Council named George Kozmetsky, a former dean of the McCombs School of Business, and John Sibley Butler, a McCombs professor emeritus, to its first class for the Austin Tech Hall of Fame. They were joined by seven others, including former University student Michael Dell, founder and CEO of Dell Technologies.

Before serving as dean of Texas McCombs for 16 years, Kozmetsky co-founded Teledyne Inc., which he left for academia. In Austin, he was  instrumental in helping to reshape the city into a technological center.

In 1982, Kozmetsky resigned his position as dean to devote himself to the University’s Institute for Constructive Capitalism (IC2). He passed away in 2003.

Butler, the second McCombs inductee, is a distinguished professor of management at the University. He is known for his contributions to entrepreneurship, minority business development, and inclusive economic growth.

Other honorees include retired Adm. Bobby Inman; Laura Kilcrease, the first leader of the Austin Technology Incubator; and James Truchard, co-founder of National Instruments. The Austin Technology Council says the Hall of Fame stands to celebrate the past, be present in the now, and to look to the future of the Austin technology ecosystem. The council’s board of directors selected the inductees.
