MIS Junior Expands Audience With Tips on Life and Jobs
By sharing advice about college and career, Tanmya Tripathi, a management information systems junior, has gathered over 130,000 followers on TikTok and 8,000 on Instagram. Her growth under @yourstudentsupporter has allowed her to monetize her content through brand deals.
“I fully started my social media having zero intention of monetization,” she told The Daily Texan. “When I started monetizing through my first brand deal, I realized (it) doubled as a side hustle and a hobby.”
Tripathi started her first blog on WordPress during the COVID-19 quarantine but soon switched to TikTok and put her ideas and inspiration into video posts. “I loved writing so much; I decided it was time to start publishing my writing,” she said. “I was reading a lot of psychology, (so) a lot of it was based on how to achieve your goals (and) self-improvement.”
“I was posting no-face videos,” she said. “I decided to post one with my face in it … and that one was the one that blew up.” Her friends say her posts stand out because they are authentic and because they offer actionable advice.
